May 15th, 2013

Join the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy on Tuesday, May 28th, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm for another installment of Percolate. Percolate is an opportunity, every other month, to join IATP in discussions about food, farming and trade. This isn’t just another lecture—come ready to participate!

Wall Street banks and elitist multibillionaires are buying up water all over the world at an unprecedented pace—even in the United States. With water insecurity increasing globally, what does this mean for our communities and farmers?

Join IATP’s international water expert Shiney Varghese for a look at how the current water governance regime privileges profit over people, communities and ecosystems. We’ll also discuss the importance of new strategies to advocate for the right to water and steps you can take to understand and reduce your water footprint.

Please register by contacting Marin Byrne at mbyrne@iatp.org or (612) 870-3411.

Best Coffee Shop in the Twin Cities 2013

April 17th, 2013

We are proud and honored to be named as the Best Coffee Shop in the Twin Cities by City Pages! It is a great testament to our talented and hard-working staff!
Here’s what they had to say:
“We have long been fans of Peace Coffee, our ubiquitous local roaster, not only for its coffee products but for its involvement in the community and its work with fair trade and sustainability around the world. So when Peace opened its own coffee shop two years ago, nestled near the convergence of the Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods, we were already predisposed to like it. And we did. Now that we’ve had some time to get to know the place, it hasn’t lost any of its charms; if anything, our appreciation has grown. The drinks, of course, are top-notch, from the dark roast to the lattes to the chai teas — each one enhanced that little bit by the details of its presentation. But it’s the space itself, that great intangible of any coffee shop, that works so well for Peace. The brightly colored walls, the wide-open feel from the large picture windows, and the hip-but-not-annoyingly-hip jams pumping over the stereo are just the thing to make you want to curl up for a few hours with a good book, or a hot date.”

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

March 7th, 2013

“Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like, if each of us offered as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person… One kind word has a wonderful way of turning into many.” -Fred Roger’s

This month marks what would have been Mr. Roger’s 85th birthday. In honor of him we celebrate with our annual Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Day by wearing a sweater and doing something neighborly.

Peace Coffee Shop and Prime Mortage are hosting an all day clothing drive on Wednesday, March 20th, to benefit People Serving People, one of the largest homeless shelters in Minnesota. Drop your clothing donations at the shop between 6:30am and 7:00pm and you’ll receive a free cup of coffee. There will also be juice boxes & ballons for children, as well as a prize giveaway for a wooden neighborhood trolley just like the one in the T.V. show.

Please join us and don’t forget to wear a sweater and bring one to donate!
